People can thrive anywhere – Olympic village

The Olympic village was built on the outskirts of Athens for the purpose of providing adequate housing to the athletes who participated in the 2004 Olympic Games. It’s a beautiful place with fantastic mountain views, plenty of empty space around and quite far from the city. When the Games ended, it was converted into houses for working-class families who bought the properties low rate loans. Many of its public spaces and buildings are not in use. Parks, playgrounds and the swimming pools have been left without maintenance. 2,600 families live here, on streets named after distinguished Greek athletes. Children play outside, everybody is hanging out at the corner shop. There is also a souvlaki joint but no taverns, bars or cafes. There is also a church and a school. Public transport is regular
